I've done the basic TT stuff - plenum pull, 60k, etc and have done basic cam and headswaps on 4bangers. I've worked with someone who was a bit more experienced as he rebuilt a VG from a Z31, so there is enough experience there for me to desire to tackle the build. OK good. I didn't pick that up from the tone of the original post.As for tools, hand and air tools - the usual suspects. Having never built a motor from the bottom up, I'm missing a lot of the task-specific tools. pulley puller, torque wrench, 27mm socket and other sundries. Stuff to pick up along the way. Overall for time and cost... figure out what you think it would cost and don't be conservative. Then, multiply that by 3. That should get you about 90% there. Figure out how much time you think it will take, then multiply that by 6. If you send the block of to a machine shop for lower end rebuild, which I pray you will, multiply the time factor by the square root of the builders age + IQ + number of employees turned over in the past 12 months. Doing that calculation will keep your mind off of how long it will actually take, which typically tends to infinity.
